Universal Language

Bryanna Fuquea from Flintstone, GA discusses her journey in music and her passion for singing and songwriting through local competitions and events.

From the strum of the guitar to the melody her voice carries, 28-year-old Rossville, Ga. local, Bryanna Fuquea writes and produces her own music.

“I just really love doing music,” Fuquea said. “Music speaks to me and to other people in so many ways; people dealing with depression, anxiety, everything.”

To Fuquea, music is a universal love language. No matter the circumstance, situation, or the feelings that come with someone’s day, music speaks to everyone in a thoughtful and vulnerable way.

Throughout her music career, Fuquea has opened up to playing her music on different platforms, such as TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook. By using these platforms, she has created a fun-loving, fan base of nearly 18,000 followers.

According to Fuquea, a fan once told her that listening to her music was like being in their own safe space.

Fuquea is known to sing modernized country, but she also sings rock, R&B, contemporary, and a couple hymns. From there she rose to the challenge of writing her own music and learning how to play various instruments including the guitar.

As a child, she began singing in her church choir. Reflecting on her introduction to singing, the gifted artist discussed her first singing competition where she unlocked her love for music.

“I think I was either in Kindergarten or first grade and I sang up on stage in front of the whole school, my parents came, and I sang a song from the movie Annie.” Fuquea said.

Overtime, Fuquea has worked through the struggles of making it into the music industry, as a professional.

“As I started writing and recording my own songs, I wanted to have them out there for people to find and listen to,” Fuquea said. “I  found a way to get them on Spotify, Apple- iTunes music, all the platforms.”

While the process of getting the music onto the platforms isn’t too exhausting, Fuquea reported how challenging it is scheduling photoshoots for album covers, getting art work done and completing checks and balances.

“If you don’t have a manager to do all of that for you, it’s a lot of work,” Fuquea said. “But it’s worth it.”

Down the road, Fuquea began taking the bright lights, loud basses and her sparkling mic to the live stage. Working closely with a band known as Lone Cove, made up of four professionally seasoned musicians: Trev Hill, Randy Leonard, Travis Hill and Hunter Morrison, Fuquea has moved to the live music scene.

“I started singing live on TikTok, and started gaining some followers, making friends on there, and now I end up going live for all of my shows,” Fuquea said. “…seeing the positive feedback from everybody and the love in my voice and my music, it made me want to heighten that into my career one day.”

On Sunday, Nov. 12, 2023, Fuquea performed with Lone Cove as a band at The Caverns in Pelham, Tn. Grundy County held the local competition, Grundy’s Got Talent, for musicians to compete against one another.

“It was incredible singing on [The Caverns] stage, and the backdrop was just beautiful,” Fuquea said. “…we did win second place, which was still awesome…a lot of really amazing people have sung on that stage and will be singing on that stage in the future.”

As the band grows, they continue to market themselves in hopes of signing with a label that allows them to maintain their creative aspirations.

“I feel like we’ve been picking up a lot of momentum as a band,” Fuquea said. “Performing a lot of different gigs and shows, which has led us to more opportunities of possibly meeting the right people to be signed one day, hopefully sooner rather than later.”

Bringing musical flair to those around her, Fuquea relates to others through the universal language of the world: music. From the passion in her voice to the notes on the page, she desires to convey feelings from broken hearts to true love.

“It’s my dream to have fans, friends, family, hearing my music, seeing me perform,” Fuquea said. “And hopefully finding a song that speaks to them on such a deep level to where they can take it back and show their loved ones.”

Lillian Simcox spoke with Todd Mayo, owner of The Caverns, a concert venue and tourist attraction in Pelham, Tennessee. Mayo opened The Caverns in 2008, and since then they have hosted artists including Chris Stapleton, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, and Need to Breathe. Mayo explained how The Caverns evolved from a smaller cave to a popular underground venue that holds over 1,000 individuals.
