Rising Rock features non-fiction stories about greater Chattanooga, TN. Contributors to Rising Rock are students at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC). The site is a combined effort of UTC’s Department of Communication and UTC’s student media, including The Echo (student newspaper), MocsNews (student video news program), and The Perch (student digital radio station).
Rising Rock is named to honor Chattanooga. The name “Chattanooga” was derived from the Muskogean word for Lookout Mountain, roughly translated as “rock rising to a point.”
The Rising Rock logo was designed by Aaron Chowdhury, a student in COMM 4350, Publication Design 2, in Spring 2018.
